Useful/Practical/Best APPs Travellers must Have/Use/Download

Nice Mobile Applications for Travellers

XE Currency– Currency Converter

While travelling, it may be quite troublesome trying to figure out the value of your currency and convert it into a foreign one. This is especially true if you head out to unfamiliar places very often and need to be updated with the latest currency rates.
For live currency rates and charts, XE currency is one of the best apps on the market. It features every currency in the world along with precious metals. You can calculate prices with the currency converter and check up to 10 currencies at a time.
It works even without internet as it stores the last updated rates in the app. You can also personalize settings like frequency of rate updates and display currency symbols.

WeatherPro–Weather

They say that the weather is unpredictable so you never know for sure. Yet, you don’t want your holiday plans to be ruined either by unexpected showers or too much sun.
With WeatherPro you will be able to estimate the weather up to a week ahead with 3 hourly forecasts. This includes temperature, wind direction and speed, air pressure, precipitation amount and probability, and relative humidity. The app is very user-friendly and forecasts are presented in an easy-to-read graphical format.
There are some additional features like alerts and warning levels for extreme weather conditions, especially beneficial for travelers. The app also displays weather reports for more than 2 million locations over the world.

Perfect World Clock – Time
It is not always so easy to keep track of various time zones for those who travel frequently to several cities or countries around the globe. Be it for work purposes or to contact people when traveling, it can get confusing about the time in different places.
In this case Perfect World Clock will be of great help. It displays the time for your current location as well as any location in the world. It captures data from over 20,000 cities in different time zones to keep you updated.
It has several widgets showing multiple time zones. It is extremely user friendly with digital and analog clock types.

Flightstats-Flight Tracking
Flightstats is one of the most popular and free flight trackers and the APP is a must have for every traveler.
1 Quickly access worldwide flight status by flight number, airport or route
2 Scan essential information like departure/arrival times, delay indexes, gates and weather
3 Watch the flight as it progresses towards the arrival airport
4 Check the flight timeline to get in-depth descriptions of all activities about your flight

GoogleTranslate – Language and Translation

Language is one of the biggest hurdles for many travelers going to new places. Being clueless about the native languageleads to a gap in communication with locals and this may lead to you missing out on a lot on your trip.
Google translate is an app that will help you in such situations. Any list for travel apps will be incomplete without this handy translator tool. It offers translation for 80 languages and even works offline without internet, making it even more beneficial for travelers. You can translate by input of text, through voice, or through pictures too.
This app gives you the option to save the translations which you can later access from any device. This is an ideal app for breaking language barriers across the world.

Practical/Useful Travel Apps

Travel apps can make life on the road so much easier, but there are thousands of them on the market. Asking different people about which is the best is like asking what color is better. However, while everyone might have different answers to the same question, there are several apps that stand out in most surveys.

TripIt Pro (iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows 7)

TripIt Pro is a great organizational tool with a simple and friendly interface. It turns your confirmation emails into a clean and detailed itinerary. Whatever bookings you make (airfares, hotel, or car rentals) it will add them to your itinerary. It also gives you directions to destinations like airport and hotels, and maps it too.

One of the best features of TripIt Pro, that a basic version is lacking, is the ability to set an alert for the exact types of seat for the flight you want. If, for example, an isle seat on your flight is not available at the time of purchase, the app will send you an alert when it clears up. All in all, it’s a great program worth the price.

Price: $49 per year (or free for the holders of the Barclays Arrival card).

Travee (Android)

Travee is a great app that allows you to keep your own phone number while on the road. It appears to be in the Beta stage, but there are enough people raving about it that I included it in this list. It routes your incoming calls made over Wi-Fi or data connection away from your local number to the app on your phone, thus avoiding long-distance and roaming charges. Incoming calls are free.

Word Lense (iPhone, iPad)

We all saw the commercials. You look at a sign in a foreign city through your iPhone, and your phone translates it right before your eyes. The most awesome and amazing feature of Word Lense is that it’s offline—no internet connection is required. While the results are often not perfect and it might seem like an impractical toy, the idea and execution are so cool that I decided to include it in this exclusive list. Four languages are covered: French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Price: $4.99

Travel App Box (iPhone, iPad)

As the name suggests, Travel App Box is a collection of several very useful apps in one place that has some reviewers calling it the Swiss Knife of apps. Some features:
•Offline Street and Public Transport Map in 40 Cities Worldwide
•Convert Currencies, Clothing Sizes, and 100+ Units
•International Dialing Codes and Emergency Numbers
•Pictionary dictionary tool, helpful for language barriers

The app also has games, a tip calculator, flight status tracker, etc. You might be able to find better-featured similar apps separately, but not in one package.

Price: $1.99

Pin Pin ATM Finder (Win 7, 7.5, 8)

It felt right to include at least one native Windows app in this list. With Pin Pin ATM Finder, you can search for the nearest ATM in 220 countries, either by using GPS or manually inserting the nearby address. Great, simple app that can be a lifesaver in some situations.
